Hey guys! So today I get to be part of a blog tour for The Yearbook* by Carol Masciola! I am doing a review for this book and I will try to be as non spoilery as possible but I make no total promises. Before I get into the review though, let me share with you some book details:
The Yearbook* by Carol Masciola
Publisher: Merit Press
Release Date: October 2015
Lola quickly determines that she’s gone back to the past—eighty years in the past, to be exact. The Fall Frolic dance is going full blast in the gym, and there she makes an instant connection with the brainy and provocative Peter Hemmings, class of ’24. His face is familiar, because she’s seen his senior portrait in the yearbook. By night’s end, Lola thinks she sees hope for her disastrous present: She’ll make a new future for herself in the past. But is it real? Or has the major mental illness in Lola’s family background finally claimed her? Has she slipped through a crack in time, or into a romantic hallucination she created in her own mind, wishing on the ragged pages of a yearbook from a more graceful time long ago?
Sound awesome? Not sure? Read my review and see if it helps:
So for this book I’m going to do another report card kind of thing like I did with the Identity Crisis blog tour….
Plot (A+): As you guys saw above in the synopsis, the plot is essentially about a time traveling girl who gets transported to 1923 (and back to the present) several times. For me, this was my favorite part because I loved seeing how different everything was in 1923 from our present time, and then see my same reactions in Lola. I loved how Lola would keep accidentally bringing up things that weren’t invented yet or hadn’t happened yet and having to realize that. Honestly, the time-traveling aspect of the book was my favorite part of it all.
Characters and Relationships (B+/A+): So here’s the thing, in the beginning, I wasn’t too fond of Lola or Danielle and so it took me a bit to get in the groove but as soon as Lola was in a library and then when she time traveled, I began to like her more and more. I still don’t like Danielle but that’s more because of her character/personality rather than how she was written if that makes sense. My favorite character had to be Whoopsie who is just the sweetest thing. She’s so loyal and sweet and I just like her. Anyway, as for the relationships between everyone, I’d give it an A+. This is because the chemistry between everyone and how the interacted was just so interesting and I really liked seeing that.
